“As we celebrate The Portland Ballet’s 25th anniversary, we’re reflecting on the generations of dancers who have grown through our academy and the audiences who have shared in their performances,” said Lauren Lane, artistic director of The Portland Ballet. “Introducing young people to ballet has always been central to our mission, and we hope these performances inspire curiosity, spark a love of dance, and create memories that last well beyond the stage.”
The Young Person's Guide to the Orchestra
Choreography by John Clifford | Music by Benjamin Britten I Staged by Lauren Lane
Playful and whimsical, The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra brings Benjamin Britten’s
celebrated score to life through dance. The work invites viewers to discover the sounds and
personalities of the orchestra as dancers embody its different instruments, building toward a
spirited finale that brings the entire ensemble together.
Paquita
Originally choreographed by Joseph Mazilier | Music by Édouard Deldevez and Ludwig Minkus | Staged by Elizabeth Guerin
First performed at the Paris Opera in 1846, Paquita has a rich history shaped by legendary ballet figures, including Marius Petipa, Anna Pavlova, and Rudolf Nureyev. Set against the colorful backdrop of 19th-century Spain, this classical ballet features elegant solos and group dances that showcase the dancers’ technical skill and artistry.
