Business Update December 2023

[December 9, 2023]

What's new in the business district this month?

The Hillsdale Shopping Center on the south side of Capitol Highway.

Let's start with the sale of the largest piece of commercial property in Hillsdale: From the Food Park at the corner of Sunset and Capitol Highway to Einstein Bagels, a new owner has taken over from the Wardin family who built the shopping center in the 1950's. Dickerhoof Properties is the new owner. Chris Braidwood-Reid and her brother Matt Braidwood, fourth-generation descendants of the Wardin family, retain ownership of several parcels on the north side of Capitol Highway. Read more here.

Salvador Molly's restaurant and bar.

Another iconic Hillsdale business has changed hands as well. Restaurant and bar Salvador Molly's has been purchased by long-time staffer Nathan Campbell. Campbell, a Native American who lived in Montana, New Mexico, and California before settling in Oregon, plans to stick with the pirate theme and Caribbean aesthetic. The menu will stay the same, with the addition of burgers and possibly brunch at a later date.

The building at the corner of Sunset and Capitol Highway will be the new home of Hillsdale Orthodontics.

Readers have likely noticed changes across Capitol Highway from the Food Park: The building formerly housing RE/MAX Equity Group Hillsdale has been purchased by a group of investors that includes Dr. Alix Leemin, DMD, of Hillsdale Orthodontics. She and Dr. Kimberly Handick will take up residence in the building once renovations are complete, with their practice occupying approximatly one third of the building. The remaining space, around 6,500 square feet, is available for lease and is suitable for medical or other professional offices.

The dental offices of Dr. Melissa Beadnell will move into the space where Key Bank used to be.

And in another transformation of business space to medical: Dr. Melissa Beadnell, DMD, has purchased the former Key Bank space on Capitol Highway near Casa Colima. Her dental practice, Simply Smiles, will relocate from Sunset Blvd following renovation of the new space.

Simply Smiles Dental and Hillsdale Orthodontics are both currently located in the Hillsdale Professional Building at 1616 SW Sunset Blvd.
