Following the announcement that executive director Lesley Sacks would step down in May, Hopewell House has launched a search for her replacement.

In a January 28 email, Sacks wrote: “This decision has not come easily. Hopewell House is woven into my heart in ways that are difficult to put into words. To have been part of bringing this vision to life — from remodeling, to opening our doors, to serving residents and families with dignity, compassion, and love, has been one of the greatest honors of my life. What we have built together is real, meaningful, and deeply needed, and I am incredibly proud of the work we have done.”
Sarah Newhall, Board Chair of the end-of-life residential care home located in Hillsdale, announced on February 12 that the nonprofit will seek a new executive director to “lead the organization into its next chapter of stability and sustainability.” Newhall is leading the search committee with John Larkin, Vice President.
Sacks was recruited in 2022 to guide the organization through a period of renewal, oversee a comprehensive renovation of the home, and lead Hopewell House to its grand reopening in 2023. Under her leadership, Newhall said, “Hopewell House successfully re-established itself as a warm, dignified, and welcoming place for people at the end of life and for those who love them.”
Founded more than 35 years ago, Hopewell House has a long history of providing dignity, comfort, and compassionate care at the end of life. Following a four-year closure, the facility was re-opened in 2023 after a community-driven capital campaign.
“Lesley’s leadership during this pivotal chapter cannot be overstated,” said Newhall. “She helped bring Hopewell House back to life—and did so with care, integrity, and vision. We are deeply grateful for her contributions and wish her every success in what comes next.”
The executive director serves as the chief executive and operational leader of the organization. This role is responsible for the day-to-day operation, management, and stewardship of the 12-bed residential hospice home, while also leading organizational strategy, fiscal stability, philanthropy, community engagement, and strategic vision of the organization.
The next executive director will work closely with the Board of Directors, staff, volunteers, donors, and community partners to ensure that Hopewell House continues to deliver high-quality, person-centered care while expanding its impact and sustainability in the years ahead.
