New owner, new tastes, for City Thai restaurant
Summer Wattanasuk, long-time City Thai employee, took over ownership of the Hillsdale eatery in October of 2023.
A new sign with a fresh look; new owner Summer Wattanasuk.
Wattanasuk has updated the logo and upgraded exterior signage and lighting. Inside, the menu now includes more than 20 new items as well as a refresh of the specialty cocktail list.
All recipes, old and new, are focused on concentrating the traditional flavors for a more authentic Thai dining experience, says Wattanasuk. New on the dessert menu is Coconut Buttered Corn, a street food favorite that Wattanasuk says is definitely having a moment in Thailand.
For seven years after coming to the US from her native Thailand, Wattanasuk worked for the previous owner at City Thai and a sister restaurant on the east side. When the previous owner decided to sell City Thai, Wattanasuk was perfectly positioned to step in, keeping ownership local and close to her home near the Garden Home neighborhood. Says Wattanasuk, “I love the neighborhood and the people and am excited to be able to support the community through fundraisers,” including for The Portland Ballet and Rieke Elementary.

We are very grateful for seven amazing years in the Multnomah Village and Hillsdale neighborhoods and will miss seeing the community members and our fellow small business owners!"
